| Our Corporate Worship The Traditional Anglican Faith |
The Book of Common Prayer has been described as "The Bible laid out for worship". In addition to the familiar Lord's Prayer, it you will find in it the Apostles' Creed, which we use at Morning and Evening Prayer, and the Nicene Creed, which we use during the Eucharist; these are central to our faith.
The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by
the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius
Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell; The
third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And
sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy
Catholic Church; The Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins;
The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.
|
The Nicene Creed I believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible: And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, Begotten of the Father before all worlds; God, of God; Light, of Light; Very God, of very God; Begotten, not made; Being of one substance with the Father; Through whom all things were made: Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, And was made man, And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried, And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, And ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of the Father. And he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead: Whose kingdom shall have no end. And I believe in the Holy Ghost, The Lord, The Giver of Life, Who proceedeth from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, Who spake by the Prophets. And I believe One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins. And I look for the Resurrection of the dead, And the Life of the world to come. Amen. |
There are two other key items in the Prayer Book, but not quoted here; they are the Creed of St. Athanasius and the Thirty-nine Articles of Religion.

The Traditional Anglican Faith
We teach and practice the Christian faith as it has been handed down to us from the Apostles
and the Early Church Fathers. There are a number of statements attesting to that tradition.
Here we quote from the Affimation of St. Louis.
|
We affirm that the church of our fathers, sustained by the most Holy Trinity,
lives yet, and that we, being moved by the Holy Spirit to walk only in that way,
are determined to continue in the Catholic Faith, Apostolic Order,
Orthodox Worship and Evangelical Witness of the same.
We acknowledge that rule of faith laid down by St. Vincent of Lerins: "Let us hold that which has been believed everywhere, always and by all, for that which is truly Catholic." We gather as people called by God to be faithful and obedient to Him. As the Royal Priestly People of God, the Church is called to be, in fact, the manifestation of Christ in and to the world. True religion is revealed to man by God. We cannot decide what is truth, but rather (in obedience) ought to receive, accept, cherish, defend and teach what God has given us. The Church is created by God, and is beyond the ultimate control of man. The Church is the Body of Christ at work in the sorld. She is the society of the baptized called out from the world. In it, but not of it. As Christ's faithful Bride, she is different from the world and must not be influenced by it. We disclaim any right or competence to suppress, alter or mend any of the ancient Oecumenical Creeds and definitions of Faith, to set aside or depart from Holy Scripture, or to alter or deviate from the essential prerequisites of an Sacrament. (From the Affirmation of St. Louis - 1977) |
The full text of the Affirmation of St. Louis can be found on the website of the Anglican Church in America, under IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS. There you will also find a several other relevant documents, including the Lambeth Quadrilateral (1888, Resolution 11) and The Kuala Lumpur Statement (1977).

Finally, here is Bp. de Catanzaro's personal Statement of Faith, written just prior to his consecration as the first bishop of the Anglican Catholic Church of Canada.
